A Survey

I got this survey from Katie's blog.

1. What color are your socks right now? White

2. What are you listening to right now? Noisy little girls. :D

3. What was the last thing you ate? A piece of a boiled potatoe - We were making a potatoe salad for Sunday lunch.

4. Can you drive a stick shift? Umm.... I can't drive at all yet.

5. Last person you spoke to on the phone? Dad.

6. Do you like the person who sent this to you? Uh... She and I are friends.

7. How old are you today? 13

8. What's your favorite sport to watch on TV? I don't watch sports. Unless someone else is watching them, and I don't have anything else to do. ;)

9. What is your favorite drink? I don't know. Maybe sweetened iced tea.

10. Have you ever dyed your hair? No.

11. Favorite food? That's a hard one. Probably mashed potatoes with plenty of gravey, or maybe alfredo, but both with lots of garlic!!!!

12. What is the last movie you watched? Well, I'm pretty sure it was "Old Yeller"....

13. Favorite day of the year? Maybe Christmas.

14. How do you vent anger? Um... usually I just try to hold it in. If I'm calm enough, sometimes I try to read or play the piano or something. But usually I just make tight fists and clench my teeth.... I think all of the 6 girls in my family could improve on how we vent anger........

15. What was your favorite toy as a child? I think it was a wooden shape-sorter. And I know that I used to climb everywhere, and would sit in big silver mixing bowls.... :D

16. What is your favorite season? Fall. Well, when Spring comes around, I might just change my mind. lol

17. Cherries or blueberries? I like both! I think I like blueberries better, though.

18. Living situation? I share a room with my older sister. It can be fun, but sometimes it can get frustrating - especially when it's at night and I'm exhausted, and she talks, and talks, and talks, and talks, and talks, and talks......

19. When was the last time you cried? I'm not sure. probably a few days ago.

20. What is on the floor of your closet right now? Let's see.... Jess's shoes, which are supposed to be there. :)

21. What did you do last night? I went to a craft thing. It was pretty fun. Except when everybody was just supposed to just watch and listen.... Then I wished I'd brought a book. LOL!

22. Plain, cheese, or spicy hamburgers? Well, right now for some reason, burgers wouldn't be on my menu. But if I had to pick, definately cheese.

23. Favorite dog breed? Any type of Setters! Irish, English, Gordon.

24. Favorite day of the week? Sunday.

25. How many states have you lived in? 1

26. Diamonds or pearls? Diamonds, but I'm not really into jewelry.

27. What is your favorite flower? Pansies. Especially the ones that have more than one color on them.

Now, I have to pass this on to Jess - if I don't she'll probably give me a good bonk on the head, or tickle me to death! LOL

Otherwise, this is an "open" survey - if you want it, go ahead.

Which book should I read next?

Today, I had to return the "Canterbury Tales" to the library - someone else is "in line" for it, so I can't check it out again right now. I'm sorta glad I got a break from the book! Now, though, I have to read "Beowulf." So far, it's okay, but it is a little grusome. Anyway, the reason for this post is to explain my pole a little. I've sort of come to a dilemma in which book I should read next. I know I should start reading instructional books, but I also want to finish a serious.

First, "In My Father's House" and "Daughters of Destiny" Are both books that are basically essays on things. The essays in "In My Father's House", I think, have something to do with learning that marriage isn't the only thing God has for you. I'm not sure if that's excatly what it's about, but I read the inside cover and sort of paraphrased :). "Daughters of Destiny" has essays, poems, and stories - basically on being the daughter that I should be.

I think most people have heard of "Stepping Heavenward," right? Well, I want to read this book because... well, I've heart it's a really good book that all young ladies/women should read.

And then, to explain the last two choices - Book #1 or Book #3 of "The Shadowcreek Chronicles." I have read books 1 and 2 of the series, but that was a little while ago. I'm debating, if I read these books next, whether to read the whole series together, or just the last two books.

So, vote ahead!

Last night's "ladies party"

Hi! Sorry I haven't posted anything lately. I just couldn't really think of anything to post, and then I just sort of forgot about blogs...

Anyway, last night, some of the men from church went to a men's retreat. So, some of us ladies gathered at my house. It was really great! Mostly, we just talked. We gave Katie and her mom a tour of the house. Of course, Katie, Jess, and I stopped at the books. We have sooo many books, and there are probably about 1/3 of them that I haven't even read yet! Katie saw that we had "Stepping Heavenward," and insisted that Jess and I read it really soon. I know I will... once I finish "The Canterbury Tales" and "Beowulf." And then, I also plan to read "In My Fathers' House." I'm not quite sure what it's about, but I think it has something to do with fathers and daughters.... *sigh* I guess I need to get reading!

The other things that happened at the "ladies party" were: I held the baby (girl). She's so adorable! All babies are. Of course, we ate. And talked and talked and talked. And my grandma came right before all the ladies left. She even brought fudge! Mmmmm... That's pretty much it. I think the best thing for me at the "party" was that it feels like family. It really does.

Yay! I'm Tagged!

So I'd like to thank Adam for "tagging" me! Here's the link to his blog: http://www.aintperfectjustforgiven.blogspot.com/

Here are the rules:

1. Do a quick post about the person that tagged you saying thanks

2. Answer the 10 questions

3. Follow 3 new blogs and list them.

4. Tag 6 people

5. Challenge one person to do something fun or crazy

The three blogs that I started following are:

Committing My Way... - www.committingmyway.blogspot.com

Virtuous Daughters - www.virtuousdaughters.blogspot.com

Nays Thoughts - www.renee-decker.blogspot.com

And here are the 10 questions:

1: Have you ever been to a rodeo?
No, but it would be neat to go to one sometime.

2: Have you ever tried to ride a cow?
Uhh... I don't think so.

3: Have you ever milked a cow or goat?
I think so.

4: Have you ever been to a Demolition Derby?
Yes, once. My Pappy was a driver, and I was little.

5: What is your favorite Country song? Who's the artist?
Hm... a hard one! Probably "Some People Change" by Montgomery Gentry

6: Do you like to hunt?
Well, I'm not sure. It might be fun, except I wouldn't want to kill any cute little animals.

7: Have you ever cooked your breakfast over an open fire in your backyard?
Not breakfast, but supper.

8: Have you ever thought that the muck was shallow and when you stepped in it, you sank knee deep?
Uh.. no.

9: What is the hardest thing you have ever done?
I really don't know.

10: (The question is optional) What's one of your most embarrassing moments?
And why would I do that? I'd just be embarrassed all over again! :)

Honestly, I can't really think of a challenge... Sorry!

And I tag:

My Mom @ www.alivingprayeranyway.blogspot.com,
Jess @ www.myfathersdaughter94.blogspot.com,
Libbi @ www.girlsofhope.blogspot.com

And the next three who comment.

A post

Dad and Jess just arrived a few hours ago at a ski resort. I'm really going to miss them! They called awhile ago, and I got to talk to them. What's neat is that while I was on the phone with Jess, I was on facebook chating with one of our friends that's also their with them. All they got to do today was sorta check everything out, but I know they're gonna have fun skiing/snowboarding all day... I know that's not really the vacation I'd pick, but I guess that's why I didn't go... That, and because of my beginner skills :). Anyway, we're just praying that there's no injuries involved :)!

Skiing

After church last night (my church has a morning and afternoon service), Dad, Jess, Karissa, Meg and I went skiing. I was really nervous, excited, scared... at the same time. I find it amazing at how many emotions a person can feel all at once! Anyway, after trudging through the snow in our ski boots (which is no light task, believe me!) and carrying our skiis, Dad got the tickets, we put on our skiis, and went on the lift. It was really fun! On the first run, Mom and Emma took a picture from the bottom of the hill (I think) as we were coming down, then they left. All of us went on two more runs, then went to the lodge. The one hill seemed really steep at the top. That was pretty scarry, at first. I sorta wished I could just close my eyes until we got the to the bottom, but of course I couldn't do that! And yes, I did breathe a quick prayer for courage then... After the third run, we went to the lodge. We would sit in "shifts" - Dad would ski with one or two of us, then come back to switch skiers. Unfortunately for those waiting, it was really boring, especially since we didn't have anything to do! But Megan didn't want to ski anymore, I don't think (as she fell asleep on the table, and when she woke up she just wanted to go home). I think I enjoyed the last run the best - by then I'd almost gotten the hang of it. If you're wondering how we ski, Dad and Jess ski very well, Karissa is a natural, Megan hangs on to Dad (which is definately adorable watching), and I pretty much ski the same way I did five years ago (that is, very slowly with the tips of the skiis together, and in an almost sitting position... hehe!)

Random

Hi! Sorry I haven't posted anything (or the pics) lately. Oh - about the pics, I'll probably post them tomorrow, so hang on!

Tonight, Daddy wasn't able to make in home for supper, so my three younger sisters (with help from Mom, of course), prepared supper, and then served it. That was sweet! The "catch" was, though, that Jess & I had to clean the kitchen. hehehehe :D

Then, later tonight, I was practicing on the piano so I can play it at the nursing home next month (a group from my church goes there every 1st Sunday of the month), and Karissa and I sang together while I played. It can sorta mess you up when you're playing if someone's singing. I don't really know why - it just does.

I'm REALLY nervous about playing... I keep trying to tell myself that the people at the nursing home probably wouldn't mind if I messed up, but I'm still really nervous! I guess I need to remember that I need to be doing this for Christ, not for men.

The Canterbury Tales

I just started to read the Canterbury Tales, and realized it's 542 pages of poetry (with 84 pages of prose). That's pretty intimidating, especially since it's an older book. I have nothing against poetry (I love it!) but after reading 542 pages, I wonder how long it'll take me to be able to read prose without automatically trying to apply rhythm to it?

Sorry 'bout the Christmas pics. Hopefully, I'll be able to post them today (they still haven't been transfered from the camera to the computer).
